An interesting kit with flaws - G. Nagy - Altamonte Springs FL
I have always liked tanks with huge canons, so even though I have no interest in the IDF I decided to try this kit. From the first step I was struck by how unusually thick the branches were that held the parts to the (mold) tree, there was no good way to cut them with a hobby knife, so a fine nosed clipper/cutter is essential for this kit. A lot of the instructions are vague, for example in the assembly of the main wheel assembly it is hard to tell where the two small bars go (they do not go where I thought they did, even though they fit there). My last issue was with the photo-etched pieces, some are extremely delicate and really easy to shape, though I have found that they ofter need to be bent differently than the pre-scoring would indicate to fit properly. Then there are the photo-etched pieces that are thicker and really hard to bend, I have never worked with photo-etch before so techniques were all new to me, and the instructions gave no insight in how to shape these. I have also noticed that the photo-etched pieces tended to be 85-90% scale of their plastic equivalent so I was not even able to use those as a shaping guide.
I was however impressed with the clearness and detail of the individual pieces, very nice molding. There are also plenty of extra pieces including two extra main gun barrels and plenty of jerry cans, fenders and various boxes. I do not know if I am yet convinced by photo-etched pieces for this kit they seemed more of a hassle than they were worth.
